It would fall under backward linkage because raw materials bought would be finished products to the industry it is being bought from.

A linkage industry is an industry that depends on other industry for its output in order to provide goods and services.

a backward linkage are those businesses that provide inputs into production process. these businesses are called upstream industries...for example a spa needs aloe vera & cocobutter. if these products are purchased form Anthony Ps. Scott and is being used by the purchaser this becomes a backward linkage. where as a forward linkage are those businesses that purchase their products so that they can be used in the purchaser's production process. for example if you baught the aloe vera & cocobutter to re-sell then this becomes a forward linkage.

Relationships and interactions between tasks, functions, departments, and organizations, that promote flow of information, ideas, and integration in achievement of shared objectives.
Or in simpler terms, where the output of one business' good becomes the input of another and where one business is totally dependant on another business' service, according to Sir McKoy of the Bishop's High School, Guyana.
