Is there a specific way to use graph paper to draw quadratic graphs? I understand CXC has specific guidelines to draw it.

Hi, have you looked at our math tutorial links? There are some great interactive demos there which show you how functions work. The tutorials are in our CXC exam prep wiki in the right navigation bar.

mathematics exams
the people who are writing the maths exams have to understand we are not mathematicians while doing pass papers i realize that each year the maths is getting harder and complicated.. the stuff that we learn in class is nothing comparing to what comes on exam day...so i am begging the cxc people to please make maths a little clearer and easier this year....

What math textbook to use
That's a good question. I don't know myself. I think the Toolsie book with the CXC past paper questions and solutions is good, but to learn math, you might need a different book.

cxc should have noticed by
cxc should have noticed by now that most of the students sitting the exam come no where close to getting a one. they should ask their self why. i mean no where in my life am i going to be doing such complicated maths like that. so please cxc people please please please make d maths exam easier for people like me. alas i beging!

There are many resources on the internet but none seems to give a coherent proposition. I want to excel in English A Exam coming January nevertheless it appears impossible in view of the fact that I am not fascinating in Reading. I can’t even read a book for above ten minutes without closing it.
In fact, I have done several researches online but appearing none contested to my satisfaction. Few sources stated that I should assume the meaning of the words which reading rather than checking up dictionaries often. I really need you to lend a helping hand in this scenario. How and what genre of books should I read? Should I look up the meaning of words? Should I concentrate more on the thought of the story rather than the author’s use of words? I am pleading desperately for your generous assistance. What shall I do as a student preparing to write CXC English in January?

Hi, if you are having problems concentrating on reading, I suggest that this is the skill you should start practicing first. The CXC English A exam is about reading with understanding and being able to express yourself clearly in written English.
If you cannot read for more than 10 minutes without needing to walk away, then I suggest you do not read for more than 10 minutes...at first.
What you have to realize is that reading like all skills gets better with practice. If you can only read for 10 minutes, then do that. Over time, if you keep reading regularly (daily), you will find that it becomes easier to read for longer periods.
Now, another question might be, what do I read? I suggest that you read books, comics, magazines, jokes or whatever takes your interest. If you like cars, read about that, if you like football or fashion, music or dancing, then read about that.
When you read for pleasure and you enjoy what you are reading, then you will want to do more of it. Again, slowly, over time, you can start reading other types of material, like newspaper articles.
However, being able to read with understanding is only one part of the CXC English A exam, you also need to be able to express yourself well in written English. You can practice your writing skills by writing regularly in a diary or keep an online journal by blogging in communities such as ours.
There are many ways to improve your English, you just need to start.

Hey,
I know you are stressing about your exam in January, and I was too, so here are a few tips:
1. Read what you like to read. This could even be comic strips, my favourite.
2. English is about words in context. The way a word is used in a sentence breeds the interpretation. So, when you read, interpret the context.
3. The exam is not just about how much you know, but how you can use time wisely and present some of that knowledge. Research has shown that one only uses about 20% of one's knowledge in an exam.
4. You say your attention span is small, so when you begin to feel disinterested, close the book and do something else for about 2 to 5 minutes. This works for me, because I am easily distracted. However, you must develop the discipline to finish reading what you must read.
5. Read with a dictionary, a pencil and a little notebook. When you see unfamiliar words, underline them or make a note of them until you have finished the chapter. Then, look up their meanings and try to use them in sentences. When talking to others, try them out! (Make sure to use them in context though. You don't want to be laughed at.)
