What is persuasive (argumentative) writing and why do it?

Persuasive writing is when you, the writer, are trying to get the reader to agree with your point of view about a topic.

There are several instances in ordinary life when being able to write persuasively is helpful.

Being able to write persuasive essays is useful for writing:

Letters to the editor
	Letters of complaint to utility companies for overcharging you.
Writing speeches or letters for community organizations/groups, buyers or voters
	University/ College essay assignments
Convincing people to see your point of view
