Is it possible that a candidate could go through the cxc syllabus on his/her own and be allowed to sit the exam at any centre closest to home.

Yes you can go through the CXC Human and Social Biology syllabus on your own and sign up at the Ministry of Education (Overseas Examinations Office in Jamaica) to sit the exam as a private candidate. Usually, you are assigned an examination center by the Local Registrar at the Ministry of Education.
