CXC math pass rates

Submitted by admin on 21 January 2008 - 11:27am

What do you think about the fact that many people pass the math paper 1 and most people fail the math paper 2?

If you look at the math exam guide, you will see that based on the way the marks for the exam are distributed, if you fail the CXC math paper 2, you basically fail the whole exam.

So even if you can do the multiple choice exams very well, you can still get messed up with the paper 2.

i beleive that most people are scared of maths and that is why they fail paper 2 and they pass the multiple coice because even if you dont know the answer you ahve the option of just circling so just cirling any answer might be the right answer so this is why they wil pass the paper 1 but paper 2 is valued 60% so if you fail paper 2 you fail the exam

Hi Andre,
If you didn't complete one question in section 2 of paper 2 of the math exam, according to our marking scheme, you have lost approximately 8% of the total exam marks. That means that the maximum amount that you can get on the exam is 92%. Now, if you get the full marks (or almost the full marks) on all the questions you answered on Paper 1 and section 1 of the paper 2 exam, maybe, maybe, you might have a chance.

Andre, i must admit we are rocking on the same boat i did well in paper 1 and paper 2 section 1 but did i question in section 2 but i dont think i got the 1. I had 10 minutes to do the bearings question that was the last question but i couldn't complete it because i panicked when the invigilator told me i have 10 mins and i sat there looking at the question but just couldn't answer it only because i panicked and got nervous i know how to do the question but i could answer it so i had to sit and look at it while the 10 mins ran out also my hands were very shaky which made it worse. i think i got 57 out of 60 on multiple choice though so i think i might narrowly get the 1 based on CXC calculations and also i possibly got 98 out of 120 on paper 2. well its up to CXC now

Guys when i look at the exam paper if you master section you are looking at about 80 marks and then do what u can in section 2( not saying that you should now do only section one), persons marking the paper not just look at answers they also look at your working out so even if your answer wrong you can still get a mark for reasoning, another thing my maths teacher told me is that if i understand a maths question and i can't set it out I can make a statement i tried it and i get a 93% in my test....

If I scorce 60 out of 120 for paper 2 and 49 out of 60 for the multiple choice do I get a three. I know u can answer because 60 is half of 120 which refers to fair good gasp and in the profile for knowledge, comprehension and reason they get half the mark each with adds up to 60 and when added the multiple choice mark I will get C's in the profiles. Ent admin? I analyzed it.

if someone gets less than 30 in the multiple choice and did a little better in the long paper. Do u think that the persons has a chance of getting a grade 3.
Another question
Th reasoning part of it, where does it comes from only the multiple choice or both papers.
