Also, from all of us who are tracking the release of CSEC results to students around the Caribbean, thanks for updating us on the Barbados situation. i am from Grenada, cape is already out down here ,but CXC is not out, i have been waiting this whole week, there is a rumor that it will be out by Friday ,but i am still keeping up my hope for tomorrow, but this really sucks because i heard that the ministry of education already has it but has not distributed it to the schools, although a rumor i kind of believe it anyways still hoping for the best for everyone

Not a problem, it seems that it's definite here in Barbados, well I can only speak for my school, I have family at my school and he told me the results are ready and I may go and collect them tomorrow, I am so nervous, I hope that I do well along with you all others ^_^

CXC Results Available To Schools

The 2008 CSEC (CXC)Results are been made available online to
school principals only. The Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Education released the results on their website late this afternoon. Schools should be able to collect the result slips for their students tomorrow morning, with students and parents collecting their results, hopefully, by 11:00am tomorrow. Students would be advised to call first or check their school's website to confirm the availability of the results.

The Ministry of Education,Jamaica is the hardest place in the world to reach.They do not answer the phones.I spent the past two days calling.Yesterday, I called four regional offices, after being transferred to about 20 different departments.I was told they had not yet received the results.To add insult to injury they gave me the cxc Barbados number. The lady on the phone said, "call and ask them ,Jamaica does not set cxc .".

This afternoon I tried my luck again .I was told they had just received the results. I asked for an estimate when students can get their results. I was told early next week. This is disgraceful!Barbados,Guyana,Trinidad and some of the smaller islands get their results tomorrow and we have another stressful weekend of waiting.

Thank you so much for that bit of information.I can completely understand your frustration with the Ministry. The least they can do is update their website with information relating to this year cxc. One more nervous weekend to go through, THIS IS TORTURE!!

There is a chance we will have our results by tomorrow, Friday 22nd August, 2008 but a guaranteed 100% we will receive it on Monday according to a teacher...

Improvement in O’Level results

FOLLOWING the solid performance of students in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) exams this year, results of the CXC O’Level exams have also shown that students have improved on their performances.

Students are expected to receive results today with principals being able to collect grade slips at the respective educational districts from 10 am. However, a release from the Education Ministry yesterday revealed that there has been a slight increase in the number of students attaining acceptable grades of I to III in this year’s CXC O’Level results with 60.3 percent of students received acceptable grades this year compared to 59.7 percent last year. “There was however a 1.7 percent improvement in the achievement of Grades I and II over 2007. Overall there has been a steady improvement in performance measured over the period 2006/2008,” the release stated.

A total of 31,558 candidates wrote the CXC examinations this year with a record of 116,480 subject entries.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry has also revealed that 85 of the 1,717 transfer requests have been accommodated. “Transfer opportunities become available only when students do not register for schools to which they were assigned based on the outcome of the Secondary Entrance Assessment examinations. The majority of these requests are for reasons of distance and other personal reasons,” a release from the Ministry stated.

Principals To Collect CXC Results
Principals in Trinidad and Tobago will be able to collect
the 2008 CXC results from the Ministry of Education from 10:00am today.
(this is confirmed). Students and parents should be able to receive the
result slips from about 11:00am and thereafter....

Hey guys, its just me again trying to keep you all abreast, well the results are available at my school but I dont want to be in all the rush so I decided that I will go collect them tomorrow though I am so anxious, one more day wait for me

School starts the 3rd of September and these ppl at the ministry are tellin me, we here in jamaica afto be waiting on results 4 another week... these ppl need to get real.. how do they expect us to plan our nex step in a week.... this is complete slackness... an the worse thing is the cape students have received theirs an we are still waiting........

I want my results!!!!!!!!!!!! im gettin really pissed now

i need those results gawd!!! i 1st heard that it would b out by Monday , Then i heard tuesday or wednesday a day after i heard friday wen i called my school they said they're not sure *sighs* a friend told me friday now i heard monday 25th oh mehn!!!! i got 2 go 2 college which re-opens 1st september 1 week 2 prepare 4 skool thats not enuf time boy im really pissed now!!!really fed up

Tell me about it!!Those ppl really need to check themselves.I agree all the way.I heard it's Monday 25th.Trying to be patient but it's not easy.Let's see what happens.

Please calm down... getting worked up is not going to help the situation. Seems that it would be more helpful to try to find out exactly what is going on and to share information so that everyone knows where they stand. I know that you must be feeling left out in St. Lucia since Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and possibly Guyana have gotten their results already. But look at it this way, this is just practice. In the real world, there is a lot more of this 'waiting on results'.

Do all private students have to go directly to the Ministry of Education for results?(in all caribbean countries)

Today, I picked up my cxc results. I did History,Spanish, Literature, Information Technology,Integrated Science,English and Mathematics. I got all of them except Maths.Which is dreadful,since nothing can be done without maths. I was looking forward to going to college/university.Getting my independence by leaving my parents house (I am tired of having nothing to do but housework) Now I can't do anything without Maths and I am stuck in my parents house until the next resit.

If you are currently going into grade 11 start studying maths now, and don't end up like me.

Private candidates would have to collect their results direct from the Ministry of Education. Results not collected after one week, would be mailed out.

Today,I picked up my cxc results.It was not too bad I only failed Physics and maths.There was big drama when I went for the results. Some parent boxed her daughter after see her bad results.

I am from Kingston, Jamaica. I was told by the Ministry of Education that some schools particularly those in the urban areas will get the results tomorrow.The rest will receive theirs Monday through to Wednesday.If you are from Jamaica,call your school and get the details.I called my school and they said hopefully tomorrow.While my cousin who lives in the country was told she would get her Tuesday.

I need to know is it possible for Jamaican student to view results online too or are we still living in the dark ages, if so give in a link please. Sorry to hear bout the bad luck in math me here helping for the best but didn’t even finish the paper anyone else get results talk about and tell how us how you felt when they handed them to you and don’t worry about what you say we don’t know you! I just like hearing about it, it makes me feel like I got mine too ^;-0)

According to News Update yesterday, the Minister of Education expressed his disappointment on the issue of results distribution in Guyana... He further stated that the result slips has not yet reached Guyana; it has to be shipped.
It seems as thought, we will not receive our results today but Monday. Who knows, maybe it would not be that day afterall...
The wait is on... Keep hanging on. Don't loose patience. Hope for the best.

August 21, 2008 (WINNFM) - Two months have past since the federation’s students have written their CSEC/CXC and CAPE examinations and while many CAPE students have received their results CXC/CSEC students are still anxiously awaiting theirs.

WINN FM contacted the Basseterre High School to find out when the CSEC/ CXC results, usually return to the Federation and was told generally one week after CAPE results.

It has been one week to date since this station received notice that the CAPE results had been received. Reports surrounding the CSEC/CXC results indicate that some of the papers are being remarked.

Meanwhile hopeful students awaiting a nod for entrance into the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College will have to wait just a bit longer despite reports of orientation being held at the college next week.

WINNFM contacted the College and was told by an official that rumors of orientation were not true. The official said that CXC results will determine the start of college life for many of the hopeful students who have filled out application forms.

The official said that without the results no orientation date would be set nor would any review of student profiles.

2nd year students are set to return to school on Monday August 24th

This year’s CXC O’Level as well as Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) exams were marred by scandal after leaks were found in the O’Level mathematics and English-A papers and CAPE Communication Studies Paper II prompting CXC officials to postpone and re- schedule examinations with new exam papers being issued. Students were arrested and charged in relation to both leaks.

However, students at several schools yesterday expressed relief and joy after securing their O’Level grade slips (also known as the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate).

At Lakshmi Girls’ Hindu College, scores of jubilant students along with parents hugged and kissed each other as they collected their results. Principal Anjanie Bissessar said students performed extremely well as was expected. Ryanka Ragbir told Newsday that she attained six distinctions and two ones’ in her results and was now planning to attend Sixth Form while Anuradha Maharaj who pursued science subjects received several distinctions along with ones and twos. She added that she too intended to enter Sixth Form. Melissa Sewaliah who attained three ones and five twos’ said she was looking forward to continuing her studies in business.

Meanwhile, at St Augustine Senior Comprehensive School, some students also expressed happiness over their results while others were seen to be in a pensive mood. A school teacher told Newsday that the students performed extremely well in English and Integrated Science.

Officials at Presentation College, San Fernando, said their results were excellent as the school recorded 100 percent passes in French, History, Geography and Physics. However, the lowest percentage was in English Literature at 80 percent. Principal Errol Jaikaransingh said, the results were a significant improvement compared to last year’s. Several students said they did well but felt they could have done better. This was echoed by students at San Fernando Government School, although school officials were pleased with the 98 pass rate.

Narda Ramoutar was one who felt she did poorly. “I thought I did badly. I wanted to come back to Sixth Form but maybe I would write it over in January,” she said.

However, her schoolmates Preta Boodram and Ternig Roberts-Edwards were pleased with their results. However Naparima Girls College students Aditi Sirinath and Anandi Maraj were ecstatic over their results, as they both attained eight ones and an A in Additional Mathematics. A teacher at the school noted that the results were as “good as usual.”

Similarly, officials at Naparima College said although all of the results had not been tabulated students appeared to have performed well. Even on crutches, Isiah Smith collected his results. His classmate, Trevayne Ramnath said he was pleased with his results. “I am pleased and surprised with my results. Very, very surprised,” he said.

Thanks for the update from St Kitts and Nevis! As you can see from comments in this group, you are not alone in this. The results are being released very slowly this year. Is it always like this? Someone tell me please.

Incentive scheme for CSEC teachers

In an effort to boost the performance of the island's students in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, the Government is to introduce an incentive scheme for teachers.

Speaking Wednesday during the 44th annual conference of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA), Education Minister Andrew Holness said teachers have to be held accountable.

"If you increase your performance in CXC by X amount this year, you will get an incentive," Holness said, to the displeasure of some delegates and observers, who gathered at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa in St Ann.

Flat rates won't improve performance

He added: "I want my educators to get comfortable with the concepts of challenge and incentives."

Holness noted that performance in the education system would not improve by just giving flat rates.

"Built into the money that we give to schools, must be accountability and so when the Ministry of Education spends resources, it is spending it with the intention of seeing improvements in the system," said Holness.

One delegate, who was not pleased with the minister's announcement, said consideration should be given to the value that teachers add to students.

Doran Dixon, president of the JTA, said the association did not have a problem with incentives for teachers, provided that such incentives were not fully linked to performance. He noted that he would have more to say on the issue when the incentives mechanisms are worked out.

Yes, indeed congratulations go out to Jamaica on their wonderful performance in the olympics! Congratulations to Usain Bolt on his three gold medals, I do believe this is a first for the Caribbean. The whole region should be proud of his performance and the performance of the Jamican track team.

According to last evening's news, cxc/csec results were released to schools yesterday, and I saw students going for their results today, so it is confirmed: results are out in Lucia.

Have you ever felt like giving up on everything but there's always a thought that actually keeps you going? "Ah cah bother, am so tired of this", has that ever been your frequent cry? Well, if your answer is yes, it is an obvious indication that you are suffering from depression.

As TEENagers, it is inevitable to escape depression especially in this adolescent stage of our lives where we adapt to our environment which makes us very susceptible to certain moods. Examinations results are in the air, whether they be Caribbean Examination Council (CXC), Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and GCE examinations, you are prone to become grief-stricken with depression. However, it is quite normal to be overwhelmed by these feelings as we are only human, but it does not mean that you are to bury yourself in this self-pitying mood forever.

Depression is a mental disorder, caused from an imbalance in brain chemicals. In serious instances, this may lead to a common phenomenon in nowadays society, suicide. It can affect all aspects of the human health since it usually causes insomnia (inability to sleep) and even represses the appetite and makes one emotionally unstable.

Depressive disorder comes in different forms. These include major depression, dysthymia and bipolar (also called manic-depression), which is the least common and affects one's thinking, social behaviour and brings out terrible mood swings.
Here are TEENage's 10 ways in which you can tackle depression:

1 Change the way you think!
Do not harbour negative thoughts. Try to remain as optimistic as possible, otherwise you will be daunted and depressed easily. Read inspiring novels or quotes and train yourself to recognise and emphasise your best qualities, skills and accomplishments. Encourage yourself and do not blame yourself for little mishaps. We are all humans and we mess up so it's ok. Move on, learn from your experiences and be happy.

2 Eat healthy!
Consume food that is healthy and stimulates the production of serotonin, a chemical which evokes feelings of happiness. Food that is also high in omega-3s also helps to lift your mood and encourage more secretion of serotonin. Take your vitamins and nutrients regularly, Vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, magnesium and L-tyrosine are good anti-depression nutrients. Eat green vegetables, fruits and beans for balance diet.

3 Try to exercise regularly!
Walking, cycling and skating will not only help you to keep in shape but will raise your heart rate and increase blood flow. This will eventually help to hoist your spirit and fight against depressive thoughts.
4 Seek a support system
Family and close friends can form the basis of this support system. They can be that little boost in your social life. This will also help to build a little community where you will feel embraced and loved, while causing depressive thoughts to dwindle. Just do not isolate yourself. It will only bring greater feelings of loneliness and fuel your depression.

5 Take care of yourself
Often time persons who are depressed suffer from low self-esteem. There is usually feeling of worthlessness and insecurity. So by taking care of yourself, you improve your image as a person and increase your confidence. Put on a little make-up, take a bubble bath, and indulge in your favourite food or music. Just unwind and relax.

6 Do some voluntary work
When you assist with the homeless and elderly you build confidence and pride in the things you do. You will eventually feel great to make a valid contribution. Your problems will probably seem so trivial and you might just snap out of it and get all better.

7 Keep a journal
Believe me writing is a form of therapy. By writing what you feel you expel some of the emotional baggage that was built up in you. It will even make you more cognisant of your own feelings as a person and help you to understand and deal with them. It's almost like a way of clearly defining your problems and how best you can deal with them. So go ahead write a song, a story or a poem. Just vent all your emotions alright.

8 Do something creative
Just unleash your creative energy. You could probably do some painting, drawing or play an instrument, like a guitar or drum and put your poem or song to a rhythm.

9 Bathe in the sunlight!
Sunlight helps to release serotonin. Some people may suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during the winter. However, ensure that you protect your self with a sunscreen to prevent any skin irritation after.

10 Meditate
Yeah, 'guh hold a meditation' and relax. Focus on your thoughts and feelings and this will enable you to achieve inner peace and happiness.

TEENage hopes that you will surround yourself with positive thoughts, books and people and hold on to the faith. Believe us, suicide is not the answer.

In effectively ridding yourselves of a depressive mood, you have to discover who you are on the inside. In discovering who you are, you have to undertake tasks without placing any limitations on yourselves, in that, you try to exceed beyond your limits and not scar yourself with past mistakes or failures. They often say failures and mistakes are made only to strengthen you. You might wonder how is it that failures strengthen you, it is as simply as this: you use them as stepping stones in your life which will prevent you from making these same mistakes again which would rather than not cause you to feel depressed.

All power to life rather than to be depressed? revitalise your life, feel the rhythm, feel the vibes and start living a stress free life. Live and live positive! Bless up!

Hi, can anybody tell us whether CXC results have been given to students in Grenada? Haven't heard anything from there.. and a lot of places actually...Like St Vincent and the Grenadines, Turks and Caicos, Anguilla ....anybody want to update, even if you are not from that island but have 'family' there.. can you find out what's happening?

Im finishing high sch. and will be doing CXC this year may/june and im so scared of what lies ahead,not afraid of failing but the fear of a first experience and how will it be. would love a few words of encouragement if u may,thanks and god bless.

CXC's marking is so erratic, its a wonder that anybody passes at all. They have to cater to the abilities of all students in all member countries. As a result, the marking standard is never consistent. Several times passes are achieved and one wonders how. A lot of praying tends to help. Ever notice how they can never tell you how many marks are the equivalent of a Grade One etc.? Its because it changes every year in every subject. Then when you get to Advanced Levels, you feel as though you know nothing. Good Luck!
