Hi,

A good first idea would be to review the current CXC CSEC math syllabus to see the organization of the exam and the topic areas that must be covered. I know that that is basic, but I say it because I am not making any assumptions.

The second thing that I can suggest that will help you, is to review the CXC CSEC exam reports on maths for the last five years or so. These reports usually detail the syllabus areas where students' performance was weak for the exam and the Examiners usually suggest instructional strategies that teachers can use to improve students' performance. Reviewing (and analyzing) the CXC CSEC math exam reports for the last five years will allow you to spot the "weakness" trends in students' performance. This is information that you can use to guide your instructional planning.

Finally, it i a good idea to get as much information and support as you can from the other math teachers who teach CXC CSEC math in your department at school. These teachers will know a lot about the local (school) conditions for math teaching and may be able to suggest other ideas that you may not have thought about. They may also be willing to share resources with you.

We also have a few resources here for teaching CXC CSEC math. They are all located in our wiki CXC math guide. Please feel free to check through it and use anything that may be helpful to you. There are also a lot of websites online with math lesson plans for the various math topics; you can 'google' them.

Good luck on teaching CXC CSEC math this year! I know it will be a challenge for you but, "it takes fire to make steel!" Smile...I am sure you will do well and become a better math teacher for the experience.

Let us know how it goes!
