OAS professional development course: Quality in Basic Education (May 2013)
COURSE OBJECTIVE: (see course outline here)
This 12 week course offers an introduction to the philosophy of total quality education. Its objective is to provide primary and secondary level school teachers and administrators with the conceptual and methodological tools necessary to improve basic educational services using a team based approach to organizational development.
TARGET GROUP:
Primary or secondary level school teachers, principals or administrators, and teacher trainers.

Course End Date: July 30th, 2013

METHODOLOGY:
This online course is delivered under the academic and technical supervision of tutors. The tutors guide participants throughout the duration of the course by:
a. Helping them to access course content;
b. Suggesting reading and reference materials;
c. Analyzing and evaluating assigned activities as well as forum activities; and/p>
d. Resolving technical problems and answering questions.
In addition, the tutors provide students with a weekly analysis of participant responses and make individual interventions when necessary.
There is no class schedule, participants can enter the Virtual Classroom when is most convenient for them.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
At the conclusion of the course it is hoped that participants will have acquired knowledge of the conceptual and methodological tools necessary to improve basic educational services, as well as the ability to apply their new found knowledge and cognitive skills to their institutional settings.
EVALUATION AND CERTIFICATION
Evaluation: Participants will be evaluated throughout the course through their participation in the forums and the activities assigned to them in each module
Certification: Participants who successfully complete the diverse course requirements will receive a digital Certificate from the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (GS/OAS)
TUITION AND PAYMENT METHOD
Cost: The tuition cost for the course is USD $125 (one hundred and twenty five dollars) for participants who fulfill all the requirements and are selected to receive the financial aid provided by the GS/OAS
The tuition cost for the course, without the financial aid is USD $400 (four hundred dollars)
Method of payment
For this course, the only method of payment is with an international credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express)
and using an Internet secure page*.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
to Apply for Financial Aid:
a. Be citizens or permanent residents of any OAS member country.
b. Be currently employed as a primary or secondary level school teacher or administrator, or teacher trainer, in any of the English-speaking Caribbean countries.
c. Possess basic computer skills (use of email, Word documents, etc.)
d. Be fluent in English
e. Be able to dedicate approximately 15 hours per week for course activities.
f. Have a functional personal e-mail account (e-mail accounts cannot be shared)
