Well, that sounds a bit abstract. What about if you write a summary from one of the summary questions here, post it, and maybe we could tell you what seems to be the problem.

Hey Sheniel:
No problem! This often happens to me alot. First, a little planning will do the trick. Jot down the main points on a paper as you read the passage in the given order protrayed. The next step is to minimized or write in full sentences the points that you have, of course using your own words. Here is where vocabulary kicks in. The next and critical step is to interconnect your points with the correct conjunctions... Always remember, my friend, to keep a track of the word limit.
Hey, I may not be as so good in explaining but I hope this helps you alot.
Any study buddies have comments about this topic, whether good or bad, I personally wanted to hear from you; I bet others would love to.

Hi Mel-mel,
if you check the caribexams library, you will find a CXC English A practice exam vol 3 page with links to quite a few explanations, quizzes and movies on finding the main idea. Check it out.

I don't know why I do this but in order for me to write my summary, I write something about each sentence and I'm pretty sure this is not the way. How would I know which sentences I should pick main ideas from?

Hey Sansha: Hmmm! You are having problems picking out the main idea. I am thinking about giving you an example rather than an explanation. Well, here goes nothing!

Gavin did not attend work today because he was sick and, had to see the doctor.
We can say: Gavin wasn’t present at work due to unexpected circumstances. This example deals with vocabulary.

You can try this. Watch a movie and when finish, try to write a summary on what you saw. This will help you for now to pick out the main ideas. Smile… I bet you wouldn’t write word for word that happen in the movie. Well, sansha: this is the best for now. Hope this helps. Friends, any suggestions on sansha problem is greatly welcomed.
