Hi everyone I just wanted to let you know that there is absolutely nothing to worry about. I learnt a lot from this site and practiced what I needed to do. I did it last year and got a distinction...........so don't worry but just practice and of course you need to pray. Good Luck :)

How did you do in the mock exams? Were you passing English? I would get another teacher and do it over.

Hello Everyone,

I am a teacher of English A. I would like to encourage all of you to practice as regularly as possible and get additional help. That is, get some assistance with lessons so that you can iron our those problems which you may be having before the exam. Always study and revise so as to improve on your weak areas. God Bless and best wishes to all of you.

Taught i was an expert, taught i had English A to my advantage, to my surprised upon receiving my 2008 cxc results.... i lost hope!!!!! gain a Grade 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! B for understanding D for expression.

The B for understanding means you did well in the comprehension section. The D for expression means that you didn't do well in the writing parts - like the short story, persuasive essay and probably the summary exercise as well.

If you are resitting, try reading as much as you can and get a good insight as to how to write persuasively.

hi y'all altho i'm an english student t still need help wit persuasive writing....it stinks

Hi Sherice, you need to practice to write properly and spell properly. If we continue to use broken english in our light conversations that is what is going to come naturally when we begin to write for the exams. I had to stop writing like that because I found that I was really falling down on my grammar.

You could also try to read as much as you are able to with the aim of looking at how persuasive language is used and imitate it.

I would really be greatful for the assistant of a maths and english teacher.

Advised to all persons doing Maths, just focus on the easy questions first, then tackle the hard ones afterwards. You do have to answer the questions in the correct order. Make sure to answer at least one (1) question from each section. Good luck.

K-Lynn (not verified) 17 May 2009 - 11:02pm

I am an English teacher an one thing that i realize that student over look is the summary writing, it could be and easy set of marks if you take you time and do it. They have already given you the information, all you have to do it select the main point and re-write them in a concise manner. Take care students, and don't forget to practice.!

CAN U USE CXC PAPER TO PACTISE GCE ENGLISH

Thank you English expression, i really tried to do well on the writing parts. The persuasive section was kinda hard the topic set i had very little knowledge on it. They said female would run the Caribbean better than males.... isn't that hard? since we had no real evidence of a female prime minister... but the grade 3 got me into college soooo... lucky me xsimpson19x@hotmail.com

English...was...not bad! It was quite manageable. My only concern is that I may have gone over the word limit a tad bit for both the short story and the persuasive essay :S...

I am having a little problem. I did English A twice already & got a grade 3 both times. first i got, B for understanding & a C for expression then i got A for understanding & a D for expression. I couldn't believe it. I was that close to a grade 2. what am I doing wrong? I really need help because am going to do it 1 last time & i need to get a grade 1 or 2.

you are doing well in the reading comprehension sections but your writing skills may not be so good. Expression (where you got the C and D) are given for writing the argumentative essay, short story and for the summary. You will need to practice writing more.

guest (not verified) 6 November 2009 - 9:27pm

I find english very difficult though its an easy subject since we speak it or some of us.I never paid much attention to it but since i will be sitting the 2010 English exam i have to understand as muych as i can because without it, it makes no sense havcing others. How do you make a story so interest that it will pull on the markers five senses and i also do not understand argument and persuasive writing.
