Hi Admin: This chemistry logo above is very wonderful. You guys certainly find the right pictures to match the right subjects. That is really outstanding.

Thanks for noticing Toney! Yes we do take some time to try to find the right graphics for our content. Trying to spruce up the community a bit so that it is not so dry and boring (still needs some help, I know).

i plan on writing chemistry either next year or the year after....however i plan on doing it as a private candidate, do you think it is possible to do so and pass in one year or well less than a year...or how much prep time(lessons) do i need?

Hi,
Whether you can pass CXC Chemistry in one year is based on several things like, if you have ever done any chemistry at all in the past; if you are going to do it alone or if you are going to work with a tutor or other students; if you have access to past exams papers and get a good, recommended text book.

The most important things I think is if you are working with a good tutor who knows the CXC Chemistry syllabus well and how to teach the subject, as well as good exam study buddies to help you along the way. If you have those things, I think you can pass in one year.

The amount of prep time you will need depends on how difficult you find the subject. If you find it very difficult, you will need much more prep time.

number of moles= number of particles/Avogadro number
number of moles= mass /molar mass
number of moles=volume of gas/r.t.p (24dm)or volume of gas/s.t.p (22.4dm)
(NB it's dm cube)

hi!! u seem to be really good in chem! i jus wanted to no if we could have a little study session if its no prob with u!... i'm in form 5 exams around the corner an me and a couple of my friends really need help, someone to explain to us our teacher got sick and was unable to help us. Please please get back to me asap its greatly appreciated

Moles in grams of compound:
Example determine # moles in 5 g H2O Solution:1. Write whats given
2. Make a Sign then draw a line
3. Put the Unit down
4.Then write what you are looking for
5.In the Numerator, in this case , moles
6. Determine FM of H2O = 18g/mole
7. Then fill in the # then compute
Here we go;
5g H2O x______________mole
gH2O
5g H2O x______1mole
18gH2O
Cancel the units (gH2O) all you have left is mole : Divide 5/18 = 0.277moles =0.28moles H2O

Calculate moles from atom:
Remember that 1 mole consists of Avogadro”s number of units
Suppose you are given 2.5 x 1015 atoms of C –atoms, determine # of moles
Here we go: Follow the Script and write what’s given asin the example I showed you with water

2.5 x 1015 atoms of C X__________moles C-atoms
atoms of C

atoms of C x _________1 mole C –atoms
6.023 x 10 23 atoms C

Cancel atoms C and compute.
Hopefully you know how to work in exponential notation
Here we go:

2.5 x 1015 /6.023 x 10 23 = Divide the numbers and subtract exponents or use a scientific calculator

0.415 x 10-8 = 4.15 x 10-9 moles of C atoms

This method of solving is called Dimensional Analysis and you should prctice using this method as you will find that you will need it al your life in the academics.

I'm confident that I can get a grade 2 atleast but a little help will make a big difference... We just have to work together and help out each other in our weak areas.

I have no access to past multtiple choice papers but I know it'll make a big difference! For anyone whose interested Im willing to do the same for Bio and Physics :) Im not bad at all at working out problems from textbooks, its just the access to the material that Im having problems with, I dont want to be blind sided!

Hey,i want to attempt chemistry next year for the first time, however i am unaware on the topics.i would appreciate it if anyone could assist me with different topics, i have a college text book for practice.

hi everybody i'm writing chemistry and physic this year and as much as i believe i can do with some more help especially in understanding lab i plan on passing and if not i'm going to keep at it for the next few years (hopefully won't have to)until i pass .i believe in succeeding so for those who are having trouble don't be scared just do your best i am at the age of 31 and i never finished school but that not going to stop me i believe i will make it and the book store next to birth sports centre in chaguanas hv pass papers for 2012 chemistry and physic at the cost of 45.oo dollars so go gt some and good luck everybody

Start by buying the books

-Chemistry Explained by Joanne Nazir; ISBN 9789766481674

-CHemistry Calculations and Qualitative Analysis by Ola M. Pabs-Garnon; ISBN 9768014520

Study the first one cover to cover and you would be well set for CXC in terms of content. The second one will help with all calculations associated with CXC. The following book has been recommended but I never used so I don't know what it's like.

-Chemnistry: A Consise Revison Course for CXC by Anne Tindale; ISBN 9780748737253

What activities are you supposed to be engaged with? Is there a syllabus for Labs?
I am in the US and I am not familar with CXC Lab Syllabus. If you let me know where to find Lab syllabus, I would look at the labs and would be more than happy to assist you. If this is how I can give back to my people then I will be more than happy to be of assistance.
Regards !!!

Good... what ever time it is everyone! Dr. V. Stephenson i will be needing your help! i'm an aspiring Physiotherapist, i was always afraid of chemistry, biology, simply becuase i blocked my mind against math. now i have realized i cannot run from them any longer because i have my mind set on physiotherapy & i'm not willing to compromise. so for May/June CXCs 2013 i will be sitting Math, English, Chemistry & Biology. have not started as yet, i'm trying to get the syllabus. I tell myself i will have to do this, not limiting my brain anymore because i will become a therapist. please contact me.

Which one is easier to study within a year..Chemistry or Physics??? I need to choose one to make up my 5 subjects.I have had experience with both subjects before but doing them over.

Fay (not verified) 11 September 2012 - 12:39pm

It depends on which one you are more comfortable with. Preparation time depends on the individual, which one you have more experience with. Also, which one is more applicable to your chosen career path
