to me the accounts could have been easier if we were taught the American terminology instead of the British, CXC wasted their time preparing a syllabus....i think i did well but i was disappointed.

math? easy? what planet are you from?
math was NOT easy... the HARDEST paper i ever did...
and all who think otherwise are queer and need to be hung to allow others like me to be able to get a grade 1

This is interesting, you seem to believe that if he gets a grade 1, then he is removing a spot for you to get a grade 1. I wonder if that is true?

I don't think that CXC grades on a normal curve do they - where you will have only a certain amount of grade 1's, grade 2's and so on.

I thought they did criterion-referenced testing - where you get the grade once you meet the standard of work required. So you could have everyone sitting the exam getting grade 1 (once they met the standard of work required.... and we know that ain't happening ;-))

That's a really good question. I wonder if anyone here can answer it? Which one is it?

From what i understand....they grade based on the general performance of students....for example if a large number of students was able to score over 80% in a subject then they would allocate grade 1's to persons scoring 80 and above...someone in the 70's may get a grade 2 etc......but if on the other hand...most students scored in the 70's for a particular subject area...then grade 1's would be given to kids scoring 70 and above.......so basically grades are given according to the general performance of students in a particular year....

Hi, this is really interesting. The question seems to be whether CXC grades "on a normal curve" - that is when students marks for any year are placed on a normal or bell curve and grades are assigned according to the position of your marks on the curve in relation to the marks of the other students for that year.

Another way that CXC could be assigning grades by by using "criterion referenced" grading. Basically this means that there are certain standards of performance that have to be met by all students and depending on how well you meet those standards, you are assigned a grade. In this case, it doesn't matter what marks the other students get in the exam year because you are not being graded against them, only against the standards.

Based on the Grade and Profile Descriptions on the CXC website, it seems that they are using criterion referenced grading.

Now, I could be wrong about that but I don't think so. If anybody else has any better information, it would be great if you could post it.

my comment to that is blame it on ur poor preparation or u lack of love for the sub if u gave it a try u would see it was very easy or not as hard as we overall expected.

I was laughing my "butt" off of how easy that maths exam was. I mean...I was looking at that paper in TOTAL disbelief wondering if this was CSEC I was really writing! If that paper was any easier it would have been S.E.A.

Physics on the other hand well...........

i always love physics until i staerted oy in grade 10 i began to hate it and the teacher has the notes but cant teach...

what i would like to ask is that how does cxc grade per country or all the islands in one because i know there must be at least 100 students who mash up dat paper and that is gonna make my grade low if it is in the whole caribbean......
so plz answer if u know

i am still in some form of shock i loved the paper and i am not realli all dat focussed on maths but since this last year at school i have been very determined and it has realli payed off.....
what was most shocking to me is the fact that on the mcq's i was expecting 20 easy and the last 40 hard i cud not believe there was no challenging ones..

the maths exam was good but i loved all my subs i did 9 except physics**************

god bless
