General objectives of the section:

Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of:

1.

The scientific concepts , principals and skills involved in recreational activities;

2.

The scientific concepts, principals and skills involved in the handling of equipment;

3. The positive and negative aspects of leisure and recreational activities as regards the well-being of the individual and of the society;
4. The basic principals and functioning of audio visual aids used during leisure.

Students should be able to:

Compare the strengths of sporting material

Materials in the form of springs and rods; relationships between strength and grain structure of wood.

Perform simple experiments on elastic limits using a spiral spring rubber ban; plotting and reading load extension graph;

*interpret load extension graphs

Evaluate the quality of equipment used in sports

Relationships between properties of materials and their use in sporting activities; elasticity and strength in woods, plastics, and metals

*evaluate methods used to protect and preserve materials and equipment used in sports

Compare playing surfaces Bounce and friction

Conduct experiments to show that’s energy can be transported by a particle method
